About RMCC : General

Who sings with RMCC?
RMCC includes 300 girls and boys ages 6-18. Thousands of children have participated since the beginning of RMCC.

Since its first performance in December 1996, RMCC has prioritized its mission to actively recruit and retain children from culturally and socio-economic diverse backgrounds: 40% of the choir is children of color and approximately one-half of all choir members receive some form of financial assistance.

There are eight progressive choirs, providing opportunities for all ages, abilities and experience. Children audition for membership in a supportive, inclusive atmosphere.

What do RMCC singers learn?
Each singer learns to:

  • negotiate a choral score
  • sight sing music and read rhythms
  • understand musical terminology
  • practice production of a healthy vocal sound, and
  • appreciate a wide range of musical traditions

This magnificent musical journey allows RMCC singers to:

  • develop self-confidence
  • practice artistic discipline
  • commit to working as a team
  • celebrate musical achievements
  • strive for personal bests
  • gain respect for and understanding of cultural differences, and
  • make lifelong friendships

Who leads RMCC?
Our conductors are accomplished musicians who hold impressive academic credentials, formal musical training and a wide array of experience. Together with the music director, they select a challenging international repertoire of music, set high standards, and create performance opportunities that teach discipline, instill confidence, and promote self-esteem.

As gifted educators, the conductors nurture the learning process as they work toward the goal of performance. RMCC leaders create a supportive environment so that children feel joyful about stretching their skills and widening their windows to the world.
